Web Application Developer

Overview

With ambitious goals and a dynamic and growing market, we are looking for a seriously talented web application developer with passion, experience and creative problem solving skills to join our small and rather witty start-up team. Get in on the ground floor of one of Denver’s hottest (and funded!) new start-ups!
Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include interfacing with various third-party data feeds and developing back-end infrastructure and API’s to support our web and mobile products. You’ll be part of a tight-knit, supportive, creative, collaborative team that is passionate about building great user experiences, learning new skills and techniques, and doing the right thing. Our engineers play a key role in product development, from concept to launch, so be ready to bring your creative ideas to the table.

Even though you’ll primarily be working on the back end, it’s important for you to know how we work. We don’t use all of these components on every project, and we don’t expect you to know all of these things, but they’ll help you work with us:
Groovy & Grails
SQL persistence ~ PostgreSQL
noSQL persistence ~ CouchDB, MongoDB, Casandra
Production and consumption of digital data feeds (JSON & XML)
JavaScript (jQuery, Node.js, Backbone.js), HTML[5], CSS[3]
Mobile Web techniques including Progressive Enhancement, Responsive Design, UserAgent Detection (DeviceAtlas / WURFL)
Automated test frameworks and continuous integration
Social APIs and infrastructure including Apigee, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, MailChimp & Constant Contact

Qualifications

We use the JVM based Groovy programming language extensively and have standardized on the Grails web framework. Even if you don’t have Groovy / Java experience specifically, we're looking for smart, passionate and innovative developers that enjoy creating and continuously delivering web applications using a collaborative and agile development process. A solid understanding of software patterns and the merits of a decoupled, asynchronous, component-based architecture should be central to your DNA — sloppy, interdependent code makes us sad. It’s important that you understand how services work together and should be able to discuss the implications of architectural decisions.

We care more about skills, attitude, perspective and your work than we do about formal education and experience (though we value both). There are no education requirements, but you probably have at least a bachelors degree in some field.

Send us your resume to jobs@closely.com, along with Web development experiences to which you have contributed significantly.
