Social Workout Media is a growing New York-based startup working at the intersection of social networking and personal fitness tracking. (Think Nike+ or Fitbit.) Launched as a blog by a co-founder of Apartment Therapy Media, the company has pioneered 1.) fitness humor, and 2.) game-like "fitness" challenges. We aim to deploy the most compelling aspects of web community and game culture to help people beat inertia and make healthier lifestyle choices. We are based in Soho, and include a small crew of web start-up veterans.

We are seeking a web engineer to join our small team. The right candidate will have a degree in computer science, or equivalent real world experience, and two to five years of professional coding work. The position is full time, with competitive salary and benefits; BUT we would also consider a part time arrangement with a highly motivated, local, freelance developer with experience in one of our key development areas. (No agencies please.) Specific skill requirements as follows:

Languages: Groovy, Java, JavaScript
Technologies: Grails, Spring, JQuery, mySql, Apache
